Routine Maintenance and Repair of your Fireplace
If you have a fire place and since long it is not used then also it needs proper care and routine maintenance to keep it in good and working condition. Check it completely and make sure that bricks are not loose and refractory mortars are not coming out, if it seems loosing grip then you must consult with a professional otherwise you can fix it your self. Repair the refractory mortar and retain its beauty.
First of all scrape out all of loose in the brick mortar joints, brush mortar particles out.
Mix heat resistant refractory mortars in a prescribed ratio of water and refractory mortar in a bucket.
Blend the material on the walls of fireplace and let it rest so that the material can fix firmly.
Scoop up the rest of the refractory brick or mortar mix and place in into the joints and repeat till all the joints are filled.
Mist the refractory mortars with water a couple times a day.
